Population expansion and lack of water resources are major global problems. The global population is currently 7billion, and it is likely to increase to 9.2 billion in the next 40 years. Considering that there are still nearly 1billion hungry people, it is necessary to increase food production capacity by nearly 58% in 40 years; However, 80% of the existing cultivated land has been used. Coupled with adverse factors such as abnormal climate, reduction of arable land area, and the trend of young people leaving agriculture, the prospect is questionable. In addition, traditional agriculture uses about 87% of the world’s fresh water resources, so the substantial improvement of productivity per unit area and the establishment of water-saving technology are urgent research topics.
On September 10, 2013, the national semiconductor lighting engineering research and development and Industry Alliance Standardization Committee (CSAs) issued csa021-2013 “performance requirements for LED flat panel lamps for plant growth” alliance standard. This standard stipulates the terms and definitions, classification and nomenclature, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marks, packaging, transportation and storage of LED flat lamps for plant growth.
At present, there are many forms of LED lighting products for plant growth, such as flat panel lamp, double ended lamp, flexible lamp belt, etc., which will gradually change with the development of technology. CSAs will gradually carry out the standardization of LED lighting for plant growth according to technological development, promote scientific and technological progress and support industrial development.
